Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority
To Host a Day at the Al Basma Camp
-The Ras Al Khaimah Health Department Five-Day Camp Educates Children on Diabetes-
(Ras Al Khaimah, UAE - 25 March 2012): With a day full of activities, the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority is taking part for the first time to the Al Basma Camp (The Smile Camp) for children with diabetes held by the Ras Al Khaimah Health Department under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Al Basma Camp, held in its 5th consecutive year from 26th to 30th March, is inviting children from the UAE and GCC aged between 8 and 14 years, who suffer from diabetes, to Ras Al Khaimah with a purpose of educating them on diabetes and how to live a healthier life through a variety of ‘fun’ activities.
During the five-day “Al Basma Camp” the children will be invited to participate and attend a range of programmes including lectures, seminars and awareness workshops, all of which relate to obesity and diabetes. The children will also participate in various cultural activities (contests, plays, songs) which are designed to deliver health information in a fun and easy way. Visits to a number of hospitals and medical centres as well as recreational trips to local parks are also planned.
As part of a community initiative scheme, the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (Ras Al Khaimah TDA) is hosting the Al Basma Camp on Wednesday 28th March 2012 for educational as well as fun activities. Here, 150 children together with 50 supervisors will enjoy an outdoor trip organised by the Al Hamra Marina and the Ras Al Khaimah Marine Sports Club as well as educational and fun cooking classes, where they are invited to take part in preparing some nutritious dishes that are healthy for diabetes.
The Ras Al Khaimah TDA has invited the hotels and resorts in the emirate to participate in this community initiative by nominating a chef to participate to the educational cooking class for the diabetic children, held in the Sports Center in Ras Al Khaimah. All the chefs have coordinated under the supervision of Ras Al Khaimah TDA and the Nutrition Specialist of the Ras Al Khaimah Health Department, a menu of nutritious meals, which they will prepare with the help of the children, raising their awareness for Diabetics and teaching them how to cook simple and healthy food in a fun way.
Speaking about the event, Victor Louis Chief Operating Officer, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority said: “In line with the Ras Al Khaimah Authority’s commitment to supporting local initiatives we are delighted to support this important event, raising the awareness of the Diabetes in the UAE and the GCC and we encourage every individual as well as organisation to take part in similar initiatives to support our community.”
