 The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (Ras Al Khaimah TDA) is a young and dynamic organization. It was established in May 2011 as a Government of Ras Al Khaimah entity to develop the emirate’s tourism infrastructure and promote it, both domestically and abroad. 

 Ras Al Khaimah TDA’s aim is to establish the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah as a luxury destination for leisure and adventure travel whilst maintaining its appeal for sun seeking, beach loving couples and families. In order to achieve its goals, the Authority has a Government mandate to license, regulate and monitor the emirate’s hospitality industry. RAK TDA conducts research to identify future tourism projects and current trends, it leads on the destination’s branding and subsequent marketing and develops and implements strategies designed to encourage tourism investment into the emirate. 

 Offering a diverse landscape, rich heritage and a temperate climate, Ras Al Khaimah is an ideal getaway for leisure and adventure as well as business travel. The emirate presents an extensive selection of exclusive outdoor activities from trekking and mountain biking, kayaking, fishing and golfing combined with premium accommodation, an eclectic selection of international gourmet experiences and world-class spas.

    Chief Executive Officer

    Haitham Mattar was appointed CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority in April 2015, with a mandate to drive the economic growth of the emirate by positioning it as a world-class destination for business and leisure tourism. Haitham is spearheading Ras Al Khaimah’s strategic 2018 goal of one million annual visitors, through forging partnerships and attracting global investment. He has over 25 years’ experience in global destination and hospitality management, having held senior roles with leading global brands, including Marriott, Hilton Worldwide and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

    Executive Director of Finance & Corporate Services

    Rizwan joined the Authority in 2013 and has been instrumental in the development of Internal Controls, Governance Policies and Financial Compliance. In this time, he has successfully helped to transition the organisation into an efficient and effective entity. Rizwan brings over 25 years’ experience in Corporate Financial Management, having worked in the Global Finance Division at Marriott World Headquarters USA and with other leading world-class organisations.

    In her role as Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, Neda Carrillo is responsible for spearheading the global communications strategy and positioning Ras Al Khaimah as a world-class tourism destination for leisure and business travellers. Working with industry and media partners in existing and emerging source markets across five continents, Neda is charged with elevating international awareness of Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism and investment proposition to key stakeholders worldwide.With over 15 years of communications experience in travel and tourism organisations across the UK, Spain and UAE, including senior roles with Emirates Airline, Opodo and Amadeus, Neda’s insights into the evolving priorities of travellers and industry professionals have become a vital resource to the Authority.

    Director, Destination Marketing & Promotions

    Matteo Prato joined Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority with a remit to develop destination marketing strategies to promote tourism to the emirate. Tasked with generating innovative campaigns designed to position Ras Al Khaimah as a leading tourist destination among target global audiences, Matteo’s focus crosses B2B and B2C outreach including partnership development and trade-marketing activities, with the objective to increase visitor numbers and up resulting revenues. Originally from Italy and boasting a strong appreciation of the international tourism and hospitality landscape, Matteo has held similar roles over the past 10 years with Tourism Australia, Jordan Tourism Board, Tahiti Tourisme, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and Las Vegas Tourist Bureau.

    Director, Destination Tourism Development

    Shaji Thomas brings experience from hotel and destination sales and marketing roles with global hotel groups including Hyatt and InterContinental Hotels Group to his position as Director of Destination Tourism Development for Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. Responsible for initiating strategic alliances with travel trade associations and airlines among other major industry players, Shaji is key to further boosting international visitor numbers through individual and group travel to Ras Al Khaimah.

    Having held senior Human Resource management roles across the region, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, Paarth is well equipped to manage the multi-cultural dynamic of the Authority’s international team. His experience includes influential roles with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and a number of other leading hospitality brands.

    Director of Investor Relations

    Erik Johansson brings over 15 years of experience in global investment promotion across 30 countries, to his role as Director of Investor Relations for Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. Promoting sustained growth of tourism infrastructure to accommodate Ras Al Khaimah TDA’s ambitious target of attracting 1 million visitors by the end of 2018, Erik facilitates inward investment in hospitality real estate developments to boost the emirate’s travel and investment offering and visitor experience. Acting as an advisory function for global investors seeking to leverage Ras Al Khaimah’s continued economic and tourism industry growth, Erik is the lead contact for all investment-related enquiries.

    Mia’s extensive global events experience is a key component in the emirate’s drive to become a destination of choice for meetings and events. Before joining the Authority, Mia successfully managed her own company, Select Media Group. Mia also worked as a project director and International Correspondent for World Business Report -TV and traveled extensively, working with government dignitaries and heads of state, to develop country specific business documentaries that aired throughout the US and Middle East.
